Shandong Province-based Chinese steelmaker Jinan Iron and Steel Company (Jinan Steel) has announced that it plans to integrate its melting plant with its steel plate plant.

The plate plant of Jinan Steel was put into production in February 1998. In 2001, it went through an upgrading project, with a new 3,500 mm finishing mill added. Accordingly, the plant, with its 2,500 mm medium plate mill and its new finishing mill, saw its total annual steel plate production capacity increase to 3.6 million mt, including 1.8 million mt of shipbuilding plate. In May 2010, Jinan Steel commissioned a third plate mill at its steel plate plant, with an annual output capacity of 1.8 million mt.
