On January 18, China's Jiangxi Province-based steelmaker Jiangxi Xinyu Steel carried out successful trial runs at its newly-constructed 1,580 mm hot strip mill, thus marking the completion of the company's 3 million mt sheet production project.

The 1,580 mm hot strip mill, for which ground was broken in April 2007, will produce shipbuilding plate, common carbon structural steel, pipeline steel, low alloyed steel and electrical steel of 1.2-1.6 mm in thickness and 700-1,430 mm in width. The products will be used in manufacturing sectors including shipbuilding, automotive, bridge building, construction, machinery and pressure vessels.
