Japan's new ship export orders rises in August from July

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in August increased by 7.73 percent on tonnage basis compared to July and were up 252.3 percent year on year to 27 ships, up from 25 ships recorded in July, totaling 1.55 million gross tons, consisting of 15 bulk carriers. In August 2014, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 10 ships amounting to 442,170 gross tons.
 
In the first eight months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 245 ships with an aggregate of 13.84 million gross tons, down 10.25 percent year on year.  
 
On the other hand, in August, Japan delivered 14 ships for export, totaling 625,797 gross tons, falling from 40 ships totaling 1.55 million gross tons recorded in July. In August 2014, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 12 ships with 476,161 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year, Japan delivered 210 ships for export, totaling 8.4 million gross tons, increasing by 9.9 percent year on year.
