Japan’s new ship export orders up 65% in Aug over July

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in August this year increased by 65.1 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, to 20 ships totaling 790,948 gross tons. In August 2011, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled nine ships with 346,300 gross tons.

At the end of the first eight months of the current year, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 100 ships, with a total tonnage of 4.8 million gross tons, falling by 19.2 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in August, Japan delivered 17 ships totaling 614,053 gross tons for export, decreasing from 28 ships totaling 1.3 million gross tons recorded in July this year. In the first eight months of this year, Japan delivered 257 ships for export, totaling 11.6 million gross tons, increasing by 2.25 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
