Japan’s iron ore imports up

Japan's iron ore imports amounted to 12.3 million tons in August. This represents a 28.1 percent increase compared to 9.6 million tons imported in July. For the first eight months of 2005, Japan imported 89.6 million tons of iron ore, up 1 percent year on year. Japan imported 56.2 million tons of iron ore from Australia during the January-August 2005 period, down 1 percent from a year earlier. Japan's iron ore imports from Brazil rose 11 percent to 19.3 million tons in the first eight months. On the other hand, Japan's iron ore imports from India fell 11 percent to 7.9 million tons.
