According to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Association, ordinary steel product orders booked by domestic steel consuming sectors in Japan in May this year amounted to 5.7 million metric tons, decreasing by 10.26 percent compared to April and up 24.3 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, domestic specialty steel orders in May fell by 2.65 percent month on month and climbed by 86.06 percent year on year, totaling 1.57 million metric tons.
In May, steel product orders, including specialty steels, in Japan booked by the domestic construction sector decreased by 9.54 percent compared to April, to 855,123 metric tons, while a year-on-year increase of 9.3 percent was witnessed. Meanwhile, steel product orders booked by the Japanese automotive sector in May reached 1,058,100 metric tons, down 4.26 percent compared to April and up 48.75 percent year on year. Finally, Japan's shipbuilding industry booked 463,827 metric tons of steel products during the month in question, down 7.87 percent month on month and increasing by 8.39 percent year on year.
