Japanese automakers’ overseas output up 1.5% in 2011

Overseas vehicle production by Japanese automakers during the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2011 totaled 3,436,290 units, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). The figure represents a decrease of two percent compared to the same period of 2010.

The outcome figure reflects expanded local production in Europe and in the Americas, while local production declined in Asia, in Africa and in Oceania, during the quarter under review. Meanwhile, Japan's total overseas production in 2011 amounted to 13,382,390 units, up 1.5 percent compared to the total for 2010.

In 2011, Japan's vehicle production in Asia totaled 7,545,889 units, up 5.9 percent, its production in North America was 3,068,978 units, down 9.5 percent, while in the US Japanese vehicle output was 2,422,151 units, down 8.7 percent. In the EU, Japanese automakers' production was 1,302,277 units, up 4.2 percent, all compared to 2010.
