According to the provisional data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, in August this year
Japan's steel exports came to 3.56 million metric tons, rising by 4.9 percent year on year and up 6.63 percent as compared to July this year, while these exports generated a value of JPY 311.03 billion ($3.69 billion), up 26.1 percent compared to August 2009.
Meanwhile, in August, Japanese steel imports increased 2.6 percent as compared to August 2009, amounting to 603,697 metric tons - down 6.07 percent month on month, and totaled a value of JPY 67.57 billion ($802.25 million), up 91.6 percent year on year.

US increased by 49.3 percent to 128,000 metric tons, its exports to the EU rose by 103.6 percent to 46,000 metric tons, while iron and steel exports to
China decreased by 3.1 percent to 600,000 metric tons, exports to the
Middle East dropped by 30.1 percent to 104,000 metric tons, and iron and steel exports to the ASEAN countries rose by 14.8 percent to 945,000 metric tons, all compared to August 2009.
