Japanese steel exports increase by 4.21 percent in September over August

In September this year, Japanese steel exports rose as compared to the previous month, following the same trend recorded in August. In March, Japan's steel exports had reached all-time record levels, hitting 4.21 million metric tons.

According to the provisional data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, in September this year Japan's steel exports came to 3.71 million metric tons, rising by 4.4 percent year on year and up 4.21 percent as compared to August this year, while these exports generated a value of JPY 318.06 billion ($3.91 billion), up 19.4 percent compared to September 2009.

Meanwhile, in September, Japanese steel imports increased 47 percent as compared to August 2009, amounting to 527,493 metric tons - down 12.62 percent month on month, and totaled a value of JPY 67.47 billion ($830.62 million), up 74.6 percent year on year.
