Japanese iron and steel sales value up 4.8 percent in 2011

According to the ‘Preliminary Report on the Current Survey of Commerce' published by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japanese minerals and metals sales value in 2011 was JPY 48.96 trillion ($636.3 billion) increasing five percent compared to 2010. Meanwhile, Japan's machinery and equipment sales value in 2011 was JPY 91.92 trillion ($1.2 trillion), up 0.2 percent year on year.
 
In 2011, Japanese large-scale wholesale iron and steel sales value was JPY 9.9 trillion ($128.7 billion), up 4.8 percent compared to 2010, while the country's large-scale wholesale industrial machinery sales value fell to JPY 7.1 trillion ($92.3 billion), down 1.6 percent year on year.
