Japanese crude steel output up slightly in July

In July this year, Japanese crude steel production increased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month, while it rose by 0.5 percent year on year, totaling 9.3 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Japanese crude steel production had witnessed a 1.2 percent year-on-year increase in the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, Japan's pig iron production in July this year totaled 7.26 million metric tons, increasing by 5.4 percent month on month and up 2.2 percent compared to the same month last year.

In the January-July period of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 48.7 million metric tons, rising 2.7 percent, while its crude steel production came to 64 million metric tons, rising by 1.1 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
