In February this year, Japanese crude steel production fell 3.3 percent month on month, marking a second consecutive month-on-month drop.
According to the data released by the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japanese pig iron production in February this year totaled 6.27 million metric tons, increasing by 42.8 percent year on year, but down 7.6 percent compared to January. Meanwhile, the country's crude steel production in February amounted to 8.44 million metric tons, up 54 percent year on year and decreasing by 3.3 percent month on month.
In February, Japan's steel section production amounted to 437,800 metric tons, up 16 percent, its bar production came to 722,500 metric tons, up 13.7 percent, its wire rod output was 151,800 mt, down 2.6 percent, heavy plate output reached 924,300 metric tons, down 8.4 percent, HR wide strip production was 3.73 million mt, down 3.6 percent, CR wide strip output amounted to 1.82 million mt, down 3.9 percent, galvanized sheet production totaled 1.07 million metric tons, down 3.3 percent and welded pipe output was 280,500 metric tons, slightly increasing by 0.5 percent, all compared to January.
