Japanese crude steel output down two percent in August

In August this year, Japanese crude steel production was up 1.7 percent compared to the previous month and decreased two percent compared to August last year, totaling 8.73 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). 

Meanwhile, in August of the current year Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.67 million metric tons, rising by 2.2 percent compared to the previous month and falling 4.7 percent year on year.

In the first eight months of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 52.38 million metric tons, down 3.1 percent, while its crude steel production came to 69.64 million metric tons, falling 0.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
