Japanese auto parts company Kiriu moves part of US production to Mexico

Japan-based Kiriu Corp. will transfer part of its production from its plants in the United States to the central city of Lerma, State of Mexico, announced the governor of the state, Alfredo Del Mazo.

"Kiriu is going to make a significant investment to move two of its production lines from the United States to its Lerma plant," the governor posted on his personal Twitter account.

With plants in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, India, China, South Korea and Mexico, the company mainly produces discs and drums for vehicle brake systems. The company also has two plants in the United States, in Coldwater, Michigan and Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The amount of the investment to increase production lines at Lerma was not disclosed. The State of Mexico is the second largest economy in the country, contributing 9.1 percent of the total GDP (about $1.59 trillion).

According to the Japanese website, among the main customers are the vehicle manufacturers Mazda, Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Ford, General Motors, among others.
