Italy’s steel imports from non-EU countries up 18.9 percent in Jan-Oct

According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first 10 months of 2011 Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries reached 7.91 million metric tons, increasing by 18.9 percent year on year, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations totaled 4.06 million metric tons, down 0.6 percent year on year.

In January-October this year, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from non-EU countries reached 2.529 million metric tons, down 4.1 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports to countries outside the EU amounted to 224,000 metric tons, decreasing by 34.5 percent year on year.

In the given period, Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries increased by 23.7 percent to 558,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to non-EU destinations totaled 1.171 million metric tons, up 7.2 percent, both year on year.

On the other hand, in the first 10 months of 2011 Italy's flat steel product imports from non-EU sources reached 4.385 million metric tons, up 35.8 percent as compared to January-October 2010, while its flat steel product exports amounted to 1.42 million metric tons, with an eight percent decrease year on year.
