According to the Italian automotive industry association (Anfia), Italy's new car registrations amounted to 116,875 units in October, down 12.4 percent year on year. In the first 10 months of 2012, new car registrations in Italy totaled 1,207,860 units, down 19.7 percent year on year. October witnessed the 11th consecutive double-digit year-on-year decline for Italian new car registrations, though the decrease in October was the smallest recorded so far in 2012.

Roberto Vavassori, president of Anfia, stated that Italy’s new car registrations in October this year were comparable to the volume recorded in October 1995. He added that in the five years since 2007 the domestic market has shrunk by almost 44 percent.
