According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first 11 months of 2011 Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries reached 8.38 million metric tons, increasing by 15.9 percent year on year, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations totaled 4.54 million metric tons, up 2.3 percent year on year.
In January-November last year, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from non-EU countries reached 2.75 million metric tons, down 3.9 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports to countries outside the EU amounted to 267,000 metric tons, decreasing by 25.6 percent year on year.
In the given period, Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries increased by 24.9 percent to 607,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to non-EU destinations totaled 1.35 million metric tons, up 13.4 percent, both year on year.
On the other hand, in the first 11 months of 2011 Italy's flat steel product imports from non-EU sources reached 4.52 million metric tons, up 32.9 percent as compared to January-November 2010, while its flat steel product exports amounted to 1.57 million metric tons, with a seven percent decrease year on year.
