According to the Italian automotive industry association (Anfia), Italy's new car registrations amounted to 106,491 units in November, down 20.1 percent year on year. In the first 11 months of 2012, the new car registration figure reached 1,314,868 units, down 19.7 percent year on year. November saw the 12th successive double-digit year-on-year fall in Italian new car registrations.
Anfia president Roberto Vavassori commented, "The current market levels are similar to those of November 1977. In light of these numbers, we forecast that the year will draw to an end with a 20 percent fall in new registrations at about 1,400,000 units. On the other hand, production activity fell to 1960 levels and about 40 percent of the output is headed for exports."
