In October this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased by 9.4 percent compared to September. The port's iron ore shipments in October totaled 21.75 million metric tons, up by 9.5 percent year on year.
According to the information released by Port Hedland Port Authority, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 17.6 million metric tons in October, increasing by 16.6 percent compared to September and up 19.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. South Korea was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in October, with shipments totaling 2 million metric tons, falling by 12.8 percent year on year and up two percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to Japan amounted to 1.4 million metric tons in October, decreasing by 32.8 percent compared to September this year and down 34.6 percent year on year.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
