In September this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland decreased by 12.7 percent compared to August. The port's iron ore shipments in September totaled 19.9 million metric tons, down slightly by 0.6 percent year on year.
According to the information released by Port Hedland Port Authority, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 15.1 million metric tons in September, decreasing by 9.5 percent compared to August and stable compared to the same month of the previous year. Japan was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in September, with shipments totaling 2.1 million metric tons, rising by 21.8 percent year on year and down 12.2 percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to South Korea amounted to 1.9 million metric tons in September, decreasing by 28.6 percent compared to August this year and down 6.6 percent year on year.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
