India’s Sandur Manganese and Iron Ore Limited commissions renewable energy projects

India’s Sandur Manganese and Iron Ore Limited (SMIOL) has successfully commissioned renewable energy projects which include 33 MegaWatt (MW) solar power plant and 9.9 MW wind turbine generators along with associated required electrical equipment, company officials said on Wednesday, June 28.

The officials said that commissioning of the renewable energy projects will enable the company’s three ferroalloy furnaces in southern state of Karnataka to source cheaper energy and also reduce carbon footprint of the company’s operations.

SMIOL’s production portfolio includes 0.58 million mt per year of manganese ore, 4.5 million per year iron ore, 0.5 million mt per year coke, 0.125 million mt ferro manganese, 0.095 million mt silica manganese, 0.050 million mt per year ferro silica and 0.135 million mt per year pig iron.
