Indian steelmaker Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has announced that it has completed all major iron and steelmaking installations at its six million mt per year integrated steel plant in the Angul district in the state of Odisha, India, including India’s largest blast furnace with an annual capacity of four million mt.
The plant also includes India’s largest sinter plant with an annual capacity of four million mt per year, a two million mt per year coke oven, the world’s first two million mt per year direct reduced iron (DRI) plant based on coal gasification process (CGP), a three million mt per year steel melting shop, the world’s largest 1.5 million mt per year bar mill, a 1.2 million mt per year plate mill and the world’s fastest 2.3 million mt per year billet caster.
JSPL’s integrated steel plant at Angul will provide direct employment opportunities to over 30,000 people and indirect employment to over 100,000 individuals. The completion of the plant at Angul, with an investment of INR 330 billion ($5.11 billion), ramps up JSPL’s steelmaking capacities significantly.
JSPL’s chairman Mr. Naveen Jindal stated that the company will aspire to grow exponentially in line with the national steel production capacity target of 300 million mt per year by 2030.
