India’s finished steel consumption rises slightly in April-August

India's finished steel consumption totaled 30.35 million mt in the first five months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), with just a 0.3 percent year-on-year cdcrease, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel.

According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 4.9 percent year on year to 33.34 million mt in the April-August period. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL recorded a drop of 0.3 percent in finished steel output compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year with 4.17 million mt, while the finished steel output of RINL rose 9.1 percent to 1.16 million mt and Tata Steel's finished steel output rose 22.6 percent to 2.99 million mt, both year on year.
