India’s Directorate General for Anti Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has recommended provisional antidumping (AD) duty for color coated steel imported from China and the European Union (EU), a senior Indian government official said on Wednesday, October 26.
The government official stated that recommendations have been sent to the department of revenue under the Ministry of Finance for official notification which is expected within the next month.
He said that the DGAD had launched antidumping investigations into imports of color coated steel from China and the EU based on complaints lodged before it by Essar Steel Limited and JSW Limited, while provisional AD duty will be applicable until such time as the DGAD completes the investigation process.
The official said that the DGAD has set the reference price for imported color coated steel at $849/mt. Hence, the duty will be the difference between the landed price of color coated steel and the reference price.
Citing a report of the DGAD, the government official said that India’s color coated steel imports increased to 213,311 mt in the July-December period of 2015, the investigation period, compared to 60,711 mt in the financial year 2012-13.
