India’s auto exports up in 2005 fiscal year

Led by the Hyundai Motors, India's passenger car exports rose 28% to 160'677 units in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2005, according to data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Hyundai India's passenger car exports amounted to 82'093 units during the fiscal year, up 94% year on year. Maruti and Tata Motors saw declines of 5.1% and 8.7% in auto exports respectively. India's total vehicle exports amounted to 629'887 units in 2005 financial year, up 31.2% from 479'919 units in 2004 fiscal year. Motorcycles and commercial vehicles also contributed to the rise in exports; however, three-wheelers experienced a drop of 1.9%.
