India's steel and mines minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar has visited the state-owned miner National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and reviewed its performance at a meeting. Shri Tomar said that NMDC must focus on increasing iron ore production to keep prices in check and ensure equitable supply of raw material to big and small producers.

According to the minister, to achieve the target of producing 75 million mt per year iron ore by 2019-2020, production needs to see a visible incremental increase. NMDC needs to have a strategic vision and plan, he said. He added that delay in execution and commissioning of ongoing projects needs to be curtailed at the earliest. NMDC chairman Shri N Kothari assured the minister that hot trials at the Nagarnar Steel Plant will commence by December 2016.
