India's Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that growing domestic demand and exports contributed to higher capacity utilization in the steel sector. Infrastructure bottlenecks and irregular raw material supply has not marred the performance of the steel industry. The National Steel Policy recently announced by the Indian government lays down the roadmap for the growth of the domestic steel sector. Accordingly, India aims to produce about 110 million metric tons of steel by 2020. The main purpose of the policy is to achieve global competitiveness not only in terms of the cost, quality and product, but also in terms of efficiency and productivity.
