Indian steel imports up 7.6 percent in June, exports down 21 percent

India’s steel imports in June this year have been provisionally estimated at 484,000 mt, up 7.6 percent year on year, according to data released by the ministry of steel on Monday, July 17.

The data showed that the share of China and Vietnam in India’s total steel imports increased sharply in June.

The share of China in total Indian steel imports in June was 37 percent compared to 26.1 percent in June 2022, while Vietnam’s share in the total imports was 4.8 percent, up from one percent in June 2022.

India’s exports of steel in June this year have been provisionally estimated at 520,000 mt, a decline of 21.3 percent year on year.
