Indian steel imports from China hit five-year high in April-August

India’s steel imports from China during the April-August period of the current fiscal year 2023-24 reached a five-year high of 0.8 million mt, up 69 percent year on year, according to the provisional data of the ministry of steel.

Total steel imports into the country in the April-August period have been provisionally estimated at 2.5 million mt, up 22.4 percent year on year.

Both China and South Korea accounted for highest shares of imports, with 0.8 million mt also being imported from the latter country during the period.
