IFML commences S. Africa plant construction

The South African branch of Australian International Ferro Metals Limited (IFML) began construction of its first integrated ferrochrome processing plant at the Bushveld complex in South Africa. The plant, which requires an investment of nearly $167 million, is expected to have an annual capacity of 267’400 tons once it comes on stream in 2007. The ferrochrome market is currently weak, but company officials expect a rebound of 5-6 percent next year due to the increasing demand for stainless steel.
