Greek steel companies Helliniki Halyvourgia and Halyvourgia Thessalias officially merged on December 1, 2006, under the new name Hellenic Halyvourgia. The move follows the acquisition of the former company by the latter in October 2004. Hellenic Halyvourgia runs two steel plants situated in Athens and Volos. These include two EAFs, two rolling mills and two wire mesh plants. The annual capacity of plants' finished products is about 1,000,000 mt. Products include billets, rebars 8-10mm, rebars in coils, wire rod, wire mesh and merchant bars. Hellenic Halyvourgia sells mostly to the Greek domestic market, while it also exports to the Balkan and Mediterranean countries. Under its new corporate identity the company will seek to explore fresh possibilities of expansion both in Greece and abroad.
