At a recent conference on the adjustment on the steel industry structure in China's Hebei Province, it was revealed that the province will focus on building up three or four highly competitive large steel groups within the next five years.

In 2009, the aggregate steel output of Hebei's five largest steel groups accounted for 48 percent of the province's total steel output. As proposed at the conference in question, this output share is expected to be increased to above 75 percent in 2015. To achieve this goal, the province will continue to push forward the elimination of outdated capacities and encourage mergers between steel companies.
