The Hot Briquetted Iron Association (HBIA) reported on Tuesday that in 2007 Europe was the top destination for HBI shipments.

According to production and shipment statistics compiled by the HBIA, more than one-third of the HBI shipments made in 2007 were for steel producers in Europe (including CIS).  North American steel producers received the second largest amount of hot briquetted iron in 2007, with 25 percent, followed by Asia with 18 percent, and South America, Africa and the Middle East with 14 percent, seven percent and slightly over one percent respectively.

Since 2004 when the HBIA began compiling statistics, 2007 saw the highest shipment total with production and shipments of HBI topping 4.8 million metric tons.
