Global steel demand to rise in 2006

The International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) today released its short range outlook for steel demand. According to the report, the apparent steel demand is expected to grow from 972 million metric tons in 2004 to between 1'040 and 1.053 million metric tons in 2006. This represents a growth of 4-5 percent over the two-year period. IISI indicates that China will see the highest growth in worldwide. The steel demand in China will increase 10 percent this year and 7-10 percent in 2006.
