Global DRI output up 7.5 percent in April

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 5.2 million metric tons in April this year, increasing by 7.5 percent year on year and rising by eight percent month on month. 
 
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 19.14 million metric tons in the January-April period of this year, increasing by 12.2 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016.
 
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in April this year. Iran’s DRI output amounted to 1.6 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in April, with outputs of 1.25 million mt, 540,000 mt and 429,000 mt respectively.
