Global DRI output up 1.6 percent in January from December

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.28 million metric tons in January this year, falling by 19.7 percent year on year and up 1.6 percent month on month. 
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in January this year. India's DRI output was 1.3 million metric tons in the given month. India was followed by Iran, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates in January, with estimated outputs of 1.21 million mt, 350,000 mt and 279,000 mt respectively.
