German metal manufacturing turnover down 4.2% in May from April

In May this year, the seasonally and working-day adjusted turnover in the German manufacturing industry decreased by 1.9 percent compared to April, according to the preliminary data reported by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The working day adjusted turnover in the German manufacturing sector in May this year increased by 1.4 percent compared to May 2013. Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, the turnover in the German manufacturing industry increased by 3.4 percent on year-on-year basis.

In May of the current year, the turnover of German metal and metal product manufacturing decreased by 4.2 percent from April, with domestic sales decreasing by 3.8 percent and foreign sales down by 4.6 percent, month on month. In May, a decrease of 3.9 percent was recorded in the turnover in manufacture of fabricated metal products in Germany, with domestic sales decreasing by 4.5 percent and foreign sales down by 2.6 percent, both compared to the previous month.
