Brazil steelmaker Gerdau has been expanding its presence in the state of Bahia through the launching of new distribution centers, according to a media report.

The company is inaugurating a center in the city of Salvador, Bahia, and is currently building a second space to meet the demands of its local clients in the city of Itabuna.

The company announced the two investments in a meeting it had with the general secretary of economic development of Bahia state, Jorge Hereda.

Despite the challenging economic scenario affecting the nation’s steel industry, a Gerdau executive said the investments in the state of Bahia are not being hurt by any crisis.

“There’s no crisis in the sector of construction of steel towers, for telecom or energy. We just closed a contract to provide 190 mt of steel for 50 wind towers from GE,” said Roberto Gerdau, the company’s industrial director.
