Gerdau Ameristeel, the second largest mini-mill steel producer in North America, has acquired Re-Bars Inc., an independent fabricator of concrete reinforcing steel based in Savannah, Georgia.

Re-Bars Inc., which started operations in 1963 and serves the Savannah area, was purchased by Gerdau for an undisclosed amount.

Vice president of commercial and downstream operations for Gerdau Ameristeel, J. Neal McCullohs, commented, "This gives us an entry into a market we have had very little participation in and allows us to continue the expansion of our ReBar Express model."
