Gallardo Sections, a part of Spain's Grupo Alfonso Gallardo, has announced the rollback of its medium and heavy sections production at Stahlwerk Thüringen, Germany by 25 percent during December 2008 and January 2009, on the back of the slowdown in structural steel demand in Central Europe.

According to Enrique Arkauz, Commercial Director of Gallardo Sections, both the steel mill and the rolling mill at Unterwellenborn (Thuringia, Germany) will halt production for almost three weeks during the period in question.

Grupo Alfonso Gallardo aims at improving current conditions both by reducing input costs through reduced requirements of raw materials and energies and by supporting a margin optimization sales policy in all core markets in Germany and the rest of Europe.

Stahlwerk Thüringen mill has a production capacity of one million mt of medium and heavy sections and produces all its semi-finished product requirements at its own EAF-based steel mill.
