Former Sparrows Point mill to transfer to new ownership

A federal court filing this week indicated that arrangements are being made to sell a significant portion of the former Sparrows Point steel mill in Baltimore, Maryland. Court documents stated the sale was being prepared for an unnamed local investment group.

The filing was made in conjunction with a federal lawsuit against the current owners of the property, liquidator Hilco and its partner, Environmental Liability Transfer, regarding wastewater being discharged through two pipelines on the property.

Hilco and Environmental Liability Transfer bought the property for $72 million in 2012 in a bankruptcy sale.
