Foreign direct investment in China up 11.3 percent in Q1

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China in the first quarter of the current year totaled $34.88 billion, up 11.3 percent year on year, as announced by China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on April 16. In March alone, foreign direct investment (FDI) in China amounted to $12.4 billion, up 2.2 percent year on year.

In the first quarter, around $21.59 billion of the total FDI went into China's services industry, while FDI in Chinese manufacturing decreased by 3.6 percent year on year to $11.22 billion. Meanwhile, overseas foreign direct investment by Chinese companies in the given quarter totaled $25.79 billion, up 29.6 percent year on year.
