First shipments from Marampa iron ore mine due in Q4

UK-based London Mining, a global diversified miner targeting the steel sector, has announced that significant progress has been made year to date at its Marampa iron ore mine in Sierra Leone.


As previously reported by SteelOrbis the construction of the initial Phase 1a production module was 60 percent complete at the end of April. London Mining had received its full environmental permit for Marampa at the beginning of January this year. In its latest statement, London Mining has said that its JORC drilling campaign currently continues and that JORC resources at Marampa now exceed one billion metric tons. The company plans to commission the Marampa mine in Q3 this year, with first shipments to follow in Q4.


London Mining has also completed the pre-feasibility study (PFS) for the phase two expansion which is expected to extract 16 million mt iron ore per year.


The budget invested in the expansion project is $93 million to date and the total capital cost is expected to be $136 million.
