Export of scrap from Iraq halts

Foreign Trade Undersecretariat has prohibited imports of war-waste scrap from Dahok and Zaho cities of Iraq. Three scrap portions at Isdemir and TCDD Iskenderun port are found to contain radioactive matter as a result of the analysis carried out by Turkish Atomic Energy Commission. However, these scrap portions are not sent to Kucukcekmece Nuclear Research Center for an extensive analysis. After the recent amendment to the existing regulations published in the Official Journal, to obtain a radioactive content analysis certificate has become obligatory. Accordingly, importers must submit such certificate issued by an internationally approved inspection company or a laboratory. As per the amendment published in the Official Journal, minimum metal content of the scrap to be imported has to be minimum 85%.
