Evraz Inc. NA, a subsidiary of the Russian steelmaking and mining company Evraz Group and a leading North American steel producer serving the tubular, flat product and long product markets, has announced major capital investments at two of its oil country tubular goods (OCTG) pipe-making facilities in Alberta, Canada, further positioning itself as a supplier of premium products.

Accordingly, the most significant investment will be the installation of a premium threading production line at the Evraz Red Deer pipe mill, to meet the growing need for the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) market and other premium connection applications.

Furthermore, before the end of the current year Evraz will also complete the installation of new tooling at Red Deer, enabling the company to finish large diameter casing and meet growing demand for value-added service.

Additionally, Evraz announced plans to expand heat treating and inspection capability at its Calgary pipe mill to meet the growing demand for larger casing sizes for the SAGD market and for other demanding applications. The Calgary improvement projects will be completed and commissioned later this year.

The value of the investments has not been disclosed.

Evraz tubular facilities manufacture a comprehensive line of oil country tubular goods in carbon, alloy and heat-treated grades, and API and CSA small and large diameter line pipe. In addition to Red Deer and Calgary, Evraz operates pipe-making facilities in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Camrose, Alberta, Canada; Portland, Oregon, US; and Pueblo, Colorado, US.
