On Wednesday, March 4, the Brussels-based European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) announced its decision to withdraw its antidumping (AD) complaint against imports of cold rolled flat stainless steel from China, South Korea and Taiwan, which was filed in December 2007.
Commenting on the withdrawal of its complaint, EUROFER said in a statement, "It has become evident that the present economic and market crisis has rendered the antidumping complaint on stainless steel cold rolled obsolete. In the light of this, EUROFER has decided to withdraw this case with a view to re-filing at a moment which would give a sounder basis for measures which would more adequately address the injury coming from any new surge of imports."
EUROFER said that the European Commission (EC) had given a commitment to install a monitoring mechanism which will provide almost real time information on import flows, and also to use all possibilities for an early and accelerated imposition of measures in the event of a re-filed case provoked by a surge of imports.
