EU-27 monthly industrial output remains stable in June compared to May

Seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the European Union member states (EU-27) in June 2010 remained stable as compared to the previous month, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In May, industrial production in the region had increased by 1.3 percent over April.
On the other hand, compared with June 2009, industrial production in the EU-27 in June this year improved by 7.7 percent. June was the sixth consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was recorded.
In June this year, production of durable consumer goods in the EU-27 dropped by 0.8 percent as compared to the previous month and was up nine percent year on year, while production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.4 percent in June compared to May and was up 11.2 percent over the same month of the previous year. In addition, production of energy in the EU-27 declined by 0.4 percent month on month, while the year-on-year increase was four percent.
Among the member states for which data are available, in June industrial production rose in eleven member states, fell in eight other member states and remained stable in Slovakia, all compared to May. The highest month-on-month increases were registered in Lithuania with three percent, in Estonia with 2.6 percent and in Romania and Finland, both with 1.9 percent; meanwhile, the most significant declines were observed in the Netherlands with 3.1 percent, in France with 1.6 percent and in Greece with 0.7 percent.
