EU-27 construction output down 0.4 percent in Dec from Nov

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in December 2011 the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 0.4 percent as compared to November and was up 7.4 percent compared to December 2010. In November, production increased 0.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
 
In the EU, the average construction output index in 2011 increased by 0.7 percent compared with 2010.

Building construction in December increased by 0.4 percent month on month and was up 5.7 percent compared to December 2010, while civil engineering fell by 0.7 percent from November and was up by 13,6 percent as compared to the same month of 2010.
 
As compared to November, construction output in December increased in the Czech Republic by 5.5 percent, in Slovakia by 3.8 percent and in Poland by 2.9 percent, while a decrease of 10.5 percent was registered in the UK, with a decrease of 8.1 percent in Slovenia and a 6.4 percent decline seen in Germany.
