EU-27 construction output down 0.4% in Feb from Jan

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 0.4 percent as compared to January and was down by 1.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In January, production had decreased by 1.7 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in February fell 0.8 percent month on month, while increasing by 0.8 percent compared to February 2012. In January, production had decreased by 2.1 percent compared to December 2012, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-27 in February increased by 0.6 percent month on month and was down 0.8 percent compared to February 2012, while civil engineering fell by 1.3 percent from January and was down 1.4 percent as compared to the February last year.

As compared to January, construction output in February increased in Romania by five percent, in Slovakia by 4.1 percent and in Sweden by 3.4 percent, while a decrease of three percent was registered in Poland, a decline of 2.7 percent was recorded in Germany, a decline of 0.8 percent was registered in Portugal
