In 2011, total scrap consumption in the European Union (EU) rose by 4.5 percent year on year to 100.8 million mt, according to the preliminary data from the European Steel Association (EUROFER). The figure represents a 25 percent increase compared to the 80.7 million mt of scrap consumed in 2009 and a 9.5 percent decrease compared to the 2008 level.
